So let’s dissect what are the qualities of a good speaker or a good speech…

Simple answer   is “A good speaker speaks in a way that his audience understands best.”

Well, you can say Brian, that sounds simple but how you can make people understand?

I’ll say the better question will be “What are the factors involved in making people understand and be influenced by your speech ?”.

Here are the few clues… People would love to hear your speech if you have these qualities in you and your speech..

1. Are you Pleasant and Positive ? No one wants to hear someone whining and complaining  by wasting their  precious time. John McCain did the same thing most of his speeches
   
2. Do u sound confidant or you have the Nervous voice like a 16 year old when asking on his first date ?
3. Enunciation – The speaker is easily understood
4. Volume You don’t have to shout but you need to have proper volume so that the people in back row can hear your speech
   
5. Eye Contact - No Eye Contact , No Emotion, No Connection… Period. Good eye contact with everyone shows that you are genuinely interested in talking to them and not at their shoes or your shoes
6. Tonality - Are you a monotone or show proper emotion while you speak ?. Audience tune away  from your speech faster than they tune away from commercial radio channel when they are getting annoying advertisements
7. Proper Pause - Are you giving enough time to people so that they can digest the information you’ve just presented or just speeding away at your pace ?.
8. Body Language and Facial Expressions How is your facial expressions and body language when you are giving a speech?. Does your  message and your body language conflict ?. If you do, even a 6year old won’t be convinced by your speech
   
9. Time When you are giving a speech do you pay attention to the clock ?. people have limited attention time span and you should deliver when you have their attention and not when they are thinking about what’s on TV tonight …
